GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) extends the 2G networking family of technologies by adding packet switching to the 2G (and earlier) circuit switched domain. GPRS is still in use in many areas today, which have not yet been upgraded to newer technologies. Maximum bandwidth under GPRS is approximately 153.6Kbps, but realistic expectations are closer to 80-100Kbps.

WAP, SMS, and MMS cellular data travel over GPRS, in addition to IP data.
